The Oncologic Physical Therapy micro-credential is awarded to learners who demonstrate advanced knowledge and skill required by physical therapists working with the oncology population. Attendees may be eligible to earn 2.5 continuing education units (CEs) in various healthcare professions.
This Level III Badge acknowledges that you are prepared to work with the oncology population and have demonstrated an in-depth understanding of pathophysiology, medical treatment, associated sequelae. physical therapy examinations and interventions for oncology. As part of the program, you will apply intervention techniques for patients with a history of cancer, including determining appropriate and safe exercise prescription.
You should pursue this micro-credential if:
You are a graduate or undergraduate student at Quininpiac or another university
You are interested in caring for and improving outcomes for the oncology population
You are interested in earning transferable academic credit
This program must be completed in-person and takes place over the course of a few months as part of your undergraduate or graduate program of study. Please check back frequently for updates on upcoming dates and locations for future sessions.
All learners who complete the criteria will earn a Level III Badge and 2.5 Continuing Education Units
Complete PT 744: Therapy Skills Elective in Oncology (3 Credits). This 3-credit course uses the essential elements of PT practice as an organizing framework and incorporates the review and practical application of recent literature.
Complete 2-3 hours of hands-on integrated clinical education in an outpatient physical therapy setting with individuals with cancer.
Complete a physical therapy continuing education program — Oncology Rehabilitation: Our Role in the Continuum of Cancer Care — inclusive of 2.5 continuing education hours.
Complete an additional 2-3 hours of integrated clinical experience (ICE) in a survivorship clinic.
Assessment of completion of micro-credential requirements is completed by a faculty evaluating learner completion of a case-based post-test associated with the continuing education program and a written reflection of your ICE experience and professional behavior and professional skills.

These badges are awarded to learners who have demonstrated mastery of tactical skills and knowledge that can be applied in professional working environments. Learners must showcase their ability to apply a collection of competencies or industry standards in true-to-life environments.
By earning a micro-credential, learners across a wide array of industries, verticals and professional fields are able to showcase the acquisition of specialized knowledge that offers unique value in the workplace. Micro-credentials are flexible and versatile, designed and delivered in an accelerated format by our experienced faculty and industry thought leaders who understand critical shortages and skills gaps.
All students who complete a micro-credential associated with academic credit or co-curricular experiences will receive a designation on their transcript and a digital badge through Credly. Micro-credential earners are encouraged to share their achievements on resumes, social media platforms and e-portfolios.
Learners can begin their pursuit of micro-credentials at any level; individuals who are new to the field are best suited for Participation or Level I badges, whereas experienced professionals might be more interested in advanced Level III Badges or Level IV Certifications.
