The Undergraduate Nursing Research Distinction micro-credential is awarded to students who demonstrate ethical standards for the protection of human subjects in research.

Program Overview

Designed for current undergraduate students at Quinnipiac, this Level II Badge recognizes that you have demonstrated ethical standards for the protection of human subjects in research. Selected elements of the research process may be completed under the guidance of an experienced research faculty mentor. At the culmination of the program, students will collaborate with nurses or other healthcare professionals to share their research or apply scientific evidence through a poster, podium presentation or publication.

Learning Outcomes

Complete the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) online required competency for all faculty and students involved in research (~4 hours). The CITI platform hosts the online training modules for Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) including applicable laws, rules and guidelines to ensure research is conducted honestly, accurately and ethically.
Attend (in person or virtually) 26 hours of pre-approved scholarly activities related to the dissemination or application of nursing research.
Participate in 40 hours of guided experiential learning activities related to nursing research and evidence-based practice. Activities include conducting research with faculty mentor guidance — like summer research at Quinnipiac – and collaborating on faculty research or improvement science initiatives like data collection, analysis, data displays, study appraisal and EB/QI team.
Present the study/scholarship experience through an evidence-based practice (EBP) standard guided by faculty mentor. Presentation may be in the form of a poster or podium presentation at a conference, webinar or other key event.

Assessment of completion of micro-credential requirements is completed by a committee of faculty experts evaluating learners artifacts aligned with a rubric.

This micro-credential requires participation in guided experiential learning activities related to nursing research and evidence-based practice, such as summer research at Quinnipiac University or collaboration related to faculty research or improvement science initiatives like data collection, analysis, displays, study appraisal or EB/QI team.

All students who complete a micro-credential associated with academic credit or co-curricular experiences will receive a designation on their transcript and a digital badge through Credly. Micro-credential earners are encouraged to share their achievements on resumes, social media platforms and e-portfolios.

Learners can begin their pursuit of micro-credentials at any level; individuals who are new to the field are best suited for Participation or Level I badges, whereas experienced professionals might be more interested in advanced Level III Badges or Level IV Certifications.
