The micro-credential is designed to teach students the skills they need to give professional scientific and technical presentations. Earners will demonstrate their working knowledge of professional presentations and scientific and technical presentation skills through oral, PowerPoint and poster presentations.

Program Overview

To earn this Level III Badge, you will complete three one-credit courses designed to sharpen your ability to present technical and scientific information with precision and clarity. Learners will demonstrate their ability to present with and without aids and visual accompaniments while also learning strategies to overcome fear and own the room physically or virtually.

You should pursue this micro-credential if:

  • You are an undergraduate student at Quinnipiac or another university

  • You want to expand your professional, scientific and technical presentation skills

  • You are interested in presenting a scientific and technical artifact to a professional audience

Program Dates and Details

This program must be completed on campus and is offered in accordance with the for-credit courses that comprise the micro-credential. All courses are held in-person in 5-week formats. Please refer to the Course Catalog for the most recent information regarding course sections and schedules.

Learning Outcomes

All learners who complete the criteria will earn a Level III Badge.

  1. Successfully complete CAS 140: Scientific and Technical Public Speaking (1 Credit). In this course, you will learn strategies to improve public speaking style and how to prepare, practice and deliver scientific and technical oral presentations without PowerPoint slides or other visual aids.

  2. Successfully complete CAS 141: Scientific and Technical PPT Design and Delivery (1 Credit). In this course, you will examine the rules and guidelines used to design and deliver a scientific/technical PowerPoint presentation. You will focus on preparing, practicing and professionally delivering an effective and engaging scientific/technical PPT presentation.

  3. Successfully complete CAS 142: Scientific and Technical Poster Presentations (1 Credit). In this course, you will examine the rules and guidelines used to design and deliver scientific/technical posters. You will also focus on preparing, practicing and professionally delivering an effective and engaging poster presentation.

  4. Produce and deliver a scientific and technical artifact that is presented to a professional audience, such as a professional society; local, regional or national meeting; university, college or departmental event; student organization; internship; or place of employment.

Assessment of completion of micro-credential requirements is completed by faculty evaluators observing learner performance and completion of required components.

These badges are awarded to learners who have demonstrated mastery of tactical skills and knowledge that can be applied in professional working environments. Learners must showcase their ability to apply a collection of competencies or industry standards in true-to-life environments.

Learners can begin their pursuit of micro-credentials at any level; individuals who are new to the field are best suited for Participation or Level I badges, whereas experienced professionals might be more interested in advanced Level III Badges or Level IV Certifications.
